Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
I provide both Psychedelic Integration and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. While I do not provide psychedelic substances, I can support you in seeking a certified Ketamine prescriber if you wish to explore ketamine therapy alongside integration sessions.
The Therapeutic Experience:
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy offers a unique opportunity to explore your mind in a safe and supportive environment. This process often invites emotional release and fosters self-acceptance, empowering you to let go of limiting beliefs and embrace new possibilities. During the session, ketamine helps to lift mental fog, allowing new thoughts, connections, and feelings to surface. This can lead to profound insights about oneself, facilitating the clearing of old patterns and creating space for healthier, more adaptive ways of thinking and feeling. After your session, we will discuss your insights and turn them into actionable steps toward healing and growth.
Understanding KAP:
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy pairs a medicinal experience with ongoing talk therapy sessions, helping clients integrate the insights gained during ketamine sessions. The essence of KAP lies in its ability to leverage neuroplasticity, supporting new ways of processing information and enabling the brain to learn healthier narratives.
What is Neuroplasticity?
Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. In the context of ketamine therapy, it plays a vital role in how the brain responds to treatment. Ketamine enhances synaptic plasticity by increasing glutamate levels, promoting the growth of new connections between neurons. This process can help break free from maladaptive thought patterns and emotional responses associated with mental health issues.
Is It Safe?
Ketamine is generally safe when given in a controlled clinical setting by trained professionals. It has been used as an anesthetic for many years and is now known for its fast-acting antidepressant effects. Some side effects, like temporary feelings of disconnection, nausea, or increased blood pressure, may happen but are usually short-lived and manageable. Before treatment, it’s important for individuals to be evaluated to ensure ketamine is suitable for their needs.
What to Expect:
During a ketamine-assisted therapy session, you will experience a calm and supportive environment. You will bring the lozenge you have been prescribed and take it in my office. Effects typically begin within 10-12 minutes and may include altered perceptions, a sense of calm detachment, or deep emotional insights. You will lay down with an eye cover, music is used to enhance the experience. I will stay in the room, holding space for whatever emerges during the session. Sometimes people speak during the session and other times they remain internal until the Ketamine wear off. After the session, we will have time for integration, allowing you to discuss your experience and insights. The session will last about 2 hours. The ketamine portion can last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
How to Prepare:
To prepare for your session, follow these guidelines:
- Avoid heavy meals at least two hours before your appointment
- Arrive well-hydrated and rested
- Set an intention for what you hope to explore during the session
- Arrange for a ride home
KAP Session: Includes a 45-minutes of preparation, 1 hour Ketamine journey, 45 minutes of integration. $600
